Anyone hear about the trashing of Washington School classrooms by students? I noticed one post on NJO but no follow up, which is pretty odd for that board. If true, the guilty must be expelled and sent to a youth detention center and parents must pay for damages. I don't want one dime of my taxes to go to replace the damaged items, which I hear includes PC's. Enough with slaps on the wrist. Jude

I have a relative who works in boe, said a 7th grader hid in the school until it was locked up for the night, completely trashed the entire third floor. Smashed computers, desks, electronic equipment. Damage is estimated to be over $100,000. Student was arrested, released to parents, name being withheld.

QUOTE (Rosie @ 2008-03-11 20:44:44) sorry, numbers won't come up...one hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment destroyed. Sad, the parents of this lowlife better start working on getting the money to pay for the damage. My taxes shouldn't go towards a dime for replacement. Jude

Jude... Funny it wasn't in the paper today...well, with 100,000 worth of damage I think the BBOE would want to keep it hush hush wink wink..I saw the police take away a student that morning, two huge holes were punched in the window leading to the schoolyard...the morning engineer found the damage, called the police...5th thruough 8th graders spent the day in the auditorium...

Unbelievable to think that one student would do that much damage. The parents should be responsible. If it is true that the child hid in school, I wonder if the parents even notifies the police when the child did not come home. I hope the school has insurance covering the damage. It's obvious that this child was never taught to take care of property and respect other people's property. That is one of the fundamental things that should be taught when a child is at a very young age. I guess the parents did not do a very good job at parenting or this would have never happened.

If, and that's a big if, the story comes out, you probably won't hear about the kid hiding in the school...they are trying desperately to keep that fact quiet...the boe doesn't want to be questioned as to how this kid was able to hide in the school without detection. Lots of things happening that you will never see in the papers...kids being forgotten and left on buses, weapons being confiscated every day at the high school, including guns, teachers with mental problems being allowed to continue working, I can go on and on all day about all the cover ups. Wonderful town we live in...

It appears this was done during normal school hours No one was locked in the school overnight.

I saw the third floor this morning, the only things that look out of place now is the missing windows. The kid broke in, not stayed till the building closed. Used rocks to break the window, then used fire extinguishers to smash the door windows. As far as the computer room, all he did was drop the server and spray the teacher's computer screen...Kid had a fight with the mother, took it out on the school...damage estimates? Maybe 10 Grand, tops...
