Bayonne Board of School Estimate Workshop 2-27-08

Posted 02-29-2008 at 06:50 PM by LDePinto
bayonne-board-of-school-estimates-2-27-08.pdf Attached is the agenda and funding chart from the BBOSE on Wednesday by Cliff Doll-BOE Business Administrator. In attendance were Mayor Malloy, Mr. Halecky, Mr. Chiappone, BOE members Healey and Lawson et al.

This was not a meeting with public participation. The next meetings are:

Wednesday 3/26/08 @ 7PM at the high-school

Tuesday 4/1/08 @ 7PM at the high-school
Some notes:

[*]Funding has increased by $8.4 M (foresee-ably sustained ~ 3 years) which is a capped 20%.
[*]Further property development (notably The Peninsula area development) will change funding - I couldn't help but wonder which way, more or less AND what would these abatements mean for school funding.
[*]The best Guestimate of increase in student for 2008-9 is 350 based on parochial school consolidation, etc. With a foreseeable 20 person staff increase-which was questioned as to why so many for 20 children.
[*]There is a security funding per student (see attached) that at the moment has no use restriction. It was felt that specific use requirements may be implemented down the road.
[*]There should be no foreseeable near future need for tax increase with the additional aid.
[*]Statistically, each 2 family home in Bayonne contributes 2.5 children each to the district.
[*]Boatworks only brought 1 child into the school district.
[*]The Peninsula Development will bring ? number of children into the district.
[*]Bayonne has 40% Free or reduced lunch students
[*]There are 640 School districts in New Jersey[/list]

How to become a BOE Trustee-3 positions open in April

Posted 02-29-2008 at 11:06 AM by LDePinto
How to become a BOE member- I was given the attached information on how to become a Board of Education member. I was also told that 3 of the current Bayonne BOE terms would be up shortly and new members (or the same ones) would be instated in April. Please Please consider offering your services to the Mayor's office for these important posts.

I would gladly offer my service if these posts were elected. But with my position being that the BOE members and Budget should be voted on by taxpayers, I will not pursue that endeavor at this time.

However, if you are interested in making a difference and changing the BOE status quo, please consider offering your much needed service to the children of our community.

Thanks,

Laura DePinto
