Unfortunately due to work I was unable to personally attend the meeting last night. However, from what I understand from others the BLRA has appointed Joe Nichols as the new Executive Director. I congratulate Joe on this appointment, and congratulate the BLRA on making a wise decision.
Recently in another thread on this board, user "cityedition" expressed the following: "Now that Nichols has been appointed director maybe the ridiculous conspiracy theory fueled screeching about Doll being appointed will FINALLY end."
I have a slightly different opinion from cityedition. I believe that we the people actually had an effect on this process. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that the BLRA & city officials made their decisions based on our opinions only. However, in this instance, many who use this board spoke up both at the BLRA meeting and directly to officials expressing support for Mr. Nichols. We also expressed our dismay at the possible appointment of Mr. Doll. I think that the BLRA could hardly afford to make another decision that would fly in the face of public opinion.
So I would like to congratulate those who have attended and continue to attend these public meetings for standing up and being heard. I think we are finally starting to see progress for our efforts, and that is a very good thing indeed. Lets keep up the positive pressure on the city, and lets continue to encourage others to become more involved.
