Doll and the BLRA

Before that stupid scare letter from Doria last year I was content to sit on my fat ass and watch, eh maybe, the council meetings. Now I find myself getting involved by going to various meetings and such. This is something that I never once fathomed doing.
I find myself frustrated and angry at the snail’s pace that change is occurring. In some instances said changes have the feel of “Bayonne politics as usual!” Just as frustrating is the fact that people are complacent. Perhaps I don’t have the right to criticize since until recently I was among the ranks. But we must change. We need to speak out. There are a few of us who gather at the council and BLRA meetings. Sometimes we even get up and speak! But more importantly is the fact that we are there! Our city fathers know that they are not just speaking to the four halls. Unfortunately there are only a handful of us. Having a few others showing up from time to time would send a message to the dais that the citizens are interested in what’s happening to their town, and not just the regular suspects. And not just the big 'ticket' items like tomorrow night's hospital meeting. I invite you to stop by and say hello. But I digress.Rather than sit and kvetch about the happenings in town I started to communicate my feelings to council and forum members. Just recently I composed a missive which was sent to a number of folks about Mr. Doll and his interest in securing the Executive Director position on the BLRA. I would now like to share that email with you.

luluStan,
Cliff can apply for his pension and then work for the BLRA. If he retires he'll get about $125,000 per year pension and his health insurance. He can sell back his unused sick days at 1/232 of his yearly salary for each day. Just think about that. He has accumulated days for over 40 years at lesser salaries, but can cash them in at his present salary. Even if he has only 232 days, he'd get $173,000. Now is the time for Malloy to show what he's made of. He can end Joe Doria's domino game by simply rejecting Cliff. The word on the street is Doria's afraid if a new mayor is selected, Pierson could lose his newly created position. Doria is so use to getting his own way it's sickening! He wanted Mike Wanko out so he cost the taxpayers a bundle by offering a " sick day" buyout. Wanko walked away with $125.000 and he got a new Principalship out of town. Several teachers took that buyout and I'll venture to guess we paid well over 1M. Now Cliff is being offered a deal. We should have some say in the matter, as it's OUR MONEY! The school rumormill was buzzing about Pierson being promoted, Doria leaving and LoRe becoming mayor long before the first mayoral election. Plans were adjusted because of unforeseen circumstances, but Pierson did get a new position, Doria did leave and Lore was handed the job at the meadowlands, because he chose not to accept the interim mayoral slot. |

luluSorry to sound so cynical, but since when are qualifications necessary to assume a position? If we had leaders with superb skills we wouldn't be in the financial situation we're in today. Unfortunately our leaders were voted in by the public sector, but the position of BLRA director does not require sanctioning by the residents. It's only our future that is at stake, so why bother to seek the best person for the job?

ohonestyI remember hearing rumors at least two years ago that Peierson was going to be promoted to be Doll's asst.. I dismissed them as rumors. Well as it turns out they where not rumors at all. He does not have the qualifications to do Doll's job and he is simply being rewarded by Doria as far as I am concerned. That really makes me wwonder who is running the show.
If Mayor Malloy allows Doll to take over at the BLRA as far as I am concerned, Doria is still running the show. He has no qualifications at all in land developement and it seems ridiculous to me that his name should even come up. If he does get the job it will tell me that it is Doria still running the city and any good faith that I tried to put into Malloy, thinking things will change for the better, will have been lost. It will be business as usual. I feel totally disgusted and wonder if we really make a difference. But then I think to myself that that is exactly what they would like. They would like us to go away and not attend any meetings. It would be much easier for them that way. I think it is important that we write to Malloy and let him know our feelings about things. I don't know if it will do any good, but we won't know if we do not try. |

luluohonesty,
Doria does have control of the school board and even if Malloy was against the promotion, the BOE listens to their BOSS. We'll see what happens with the BLRA job. Sanchez, Connelly and Baber will make the recommendation. I don't know Sanchez, Connelly will show us what he's made of if he recommends Doll and Baber works for the BOE. Will she abstain? Will Malloy have any influence over the recommendation? Tune in later for another episode of " another world". |
