Bayonne Community News: "Catch me if you can"

Kudos to Al Sullivan of the Community News for hearing Councilman LoRe correctly at the City Council Meeting. I have said before that this website is not a news organization. This is an opinion blog. While this affords me the luxury of criticizing the press when I think they got the story wrong, it also means I can praise them when they get it right. In this instance I was curious to see what news organizations, if any, would pick up on the comment Councilman LoRe made at towards the end of last week's council meeting. He said "Let them catch up with us" in reference to his support for the transfer of monies from the BLRA to the city, which the Army has ordered to stop until the investigation is complete.
From what I understand, this action will put the city in serious legal jeopardy. From what I understand, Mr. LoRe's comments have put city hall into quite a tizzy, and today's article ratcheted things up. I heard some interesting things from city hall insiders today that I hope to talk about soon, but be certain that this action will not make life any easier in Bayonne, even if it does provide a short term plug to the budget issue. It certainly seems as if the Mayors office is not in favor of Mr. LoRe's statement.
Remember, the Army has not given the final word on money transfers yet. The letter made it clear that they would consider financial solutions once they completed the review of finances. To go against their wishes, while not explicitly illegal, would indeed leave us open for legal action. It is my sincere hope that Mr. LoRe reconsiders this statement.

GREENVILLETHIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE ARE WHERE WE ARE WITH THE BLRA. HIS (LoRe) ATTITUDE OF "LET'S DO AS WE PLEASE AND WORRY ABOUT IT LATER" ISN'T JUST HIS. THAT'S THE ATTITUDE OF ALL THE BLRA MEMBERS. WE SAW IT WITH HOWARD FITCH WITH HIS COMMENT "I'M PISSED THIS WAS PRINTED IN TODAYS PAPER." WE SAW IT WITH THE WHOLE BLRA WHEN THEY TRIED TO PUSH THE "PORT" Authority DEAL THROUGH WITHOUT OTHER BIDS.
NOW ON TOP OF ALL THAT, THEY HIRE NANCY KIST (WHO HELPED SCREW THE DEAL UP TO BEGIN WITH) FOR $118,000 SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE MONEY IN THE BUDGET AND JOE NICHOLS CAN HIRE ANYONE HE WANTS TO WITHOUT GET APPROVAL FROM HIS EMPLOYER. |

HappyPolskiFrom what I read in the Army letter it seems like they would prefer to come to an amiable conclusion on the swaps. However, IMHO this kind of arrogance can only result in a negative solution. The Army is liable to go by the letter of the agreement which might mean a court injunction against any further money swapping. Then what do we do?
We've been in sorry shape for so long what does it matter if we continue for the near term? |

luluThere is at least one individual at City Hall who appears to have some ethics - the person who told Al Sullivan about the Army letter. The intentional withholding of the letter did nothing but reaffirm the deviousness of our governing body.
Did LoRe's statement mean that they are going to go through with their plans of transferring the money anyway? The city council had voted for the bond months ago, and isn't it up to the BLRA to now vote to transfer the funds? If the BLRA does make the transfer, do we , as a community, have any recourse? I wouldn't be happy having to pay additional taxes but I'd be more upset violating the Army's mandate. |

GREENVILLEYOU'RE RIGHT LULU. IT IS THE BLRA WHO CALLS THAT SHOT. BUT BEING LORE MADE THAT STATEMENT I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THERE ARE OTHERS WHO ARE ACTUALLY CALLING THE SHOTS AS I HAVE SAID LONG AGO. MENENDEZ, CORZINE AND DORIA. AND WE ALL KNOW LORE IS A DORIA PUPPET. IF WE LOOK AT ALL THE MEMBERS ON THE BLRA, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE 2 NEWEST COUNCIL MEMBERS ON BOARD THERE, THEY ARE ALL DORIA SUPPORTERS.

luluI agree, this entire scenerio had been orchestrated a long time ago. Prior to the election, the rumor was that Doria was going to leave Bayonne. The dominoes were stacked up as follows, DCA woman goes to PA, Doria gets her job, LoRe gets Doria's job, PA gets Motby property,we eventually get the tax relief we deserve and we all lived happily ever after! Bang, a bump in the yellow brick road starts to make the dominoes fall. The only one who comes out unscathed is Doria. In all their months and possibly years of planning never did they take into account there could be a snafu in their scheme. Had the BLRA been instructed to dot their i's and cross their t's handling the PA deal, we'd not be in the mess we are today. The outcome may not have been our choice, but it would have over.
In the end, who pays for their mistakes? WE DO- THE TAXPAYERS AND ALSO THOSE IN RENTAL APARTMENTS. |
