Default Judge And 'fury'

Fireworks erupted yesterday at the Brooklyn trial of a man accused of killing a little girl during a drunken shooting rampage, when the child's uncle lunged at the defendant in court. An angry Shawn Clark got within six feet of defendant General Lee Waiters, surprising court officers and even his own family members who restrained him and pulled him from the courtroom - in full view of the newly chosen jury. Waiters faces a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of 3-year-old Tajmere Clark, who was killed during what prosecutors said was a fight over Waiters' excessive drinking. Tajmere's grandmother, Mary Lee Clark, who was shot in the head, has been in a coma since the rampage two years ago. Jurors also got to hear from NYPD Sergeant Timothy Corleto, who was captured on the front page of The Post running from the shooting scene with Tajmere's bleeding body in his arms. "There was a lot of screaming going on inside the building," said Corleto, the prosecution's first witness. "There was a lot of chaos going on." Waiters had been drinking heavily after a birthday party in his honor in the East New York apartment he shared with his girlfriend, Jacqueline Warren, prosecutors said. When Warren's adult son, Lorenzo, confronted him, Waiters pulled out a .357 Magnum, and squeezed off five shots, including two that hit Tajmere in the head and chest, prosecutors said. Lorenzo and his teenaged sister were also wounded in the shooting, but have since recovered. "The more he drinks, the meaner he gets," Assistant District Attorney Mark Hale said in his opening statement. "The meaner he gets, the nastier he becomes." Hale was only allowed to make his opening remarks after Justice Deborah Dowling polled each juror, and was assured that they all could hear evidence without being prejudiced by Clark's outburst. Outside the courtroom, Tajmere's mother, Natasha, said her brother's emotions just got the best of him. She said family members got angry when Waiters faced them, but did not apologize. "He didn't say 'I'm sorry' or anything," Natasha Clark said. "He didn't show anything. He just turned back and looked." A vigil in Tajmere's honor will be held tomorrow, the second anniversary of the shooting, at Blake and Williams streets in Brooklyn.
