Joy has turned to grief for the family of a Queens girl who was killed by a stray bullet as she stood outside her Far Rockaway home. "We were supposed to be shopping for a prom dress, but now we're going to be shopping for a coffin," said Tineen Harris, mother of 15-year-old Brandon Bethea. Brandon was shot Saturday, hours before a separate outbreak of gun violence in Far Rockaway left several men wounded. Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, Brandon was standing outside the Redfern Houses with two friends when a stray bullet struck her in the head. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. The bullet that killed Bethea was apparently not shot at close range, police said. No arrests have been made. Three hours later and a few blocks away, a second shooting erupted outside a West Indian restaurant on Beach 21st Street and Mott Avenue. Police said two groups of men were arguing there around 2 a.m. when one man left to get a gun. He returned and fired a barrage of bullets at the rival group, police said. Five people were wounded, mostly taking bullets to the legs, stomachs and arms. None were injured critically, police said. The shooter fled with a car full of men but was stopped soon after when a description of the car was called in. All six of the men were taken to the 101st Precinct station house for questioning after a .357-caliber revolver was recovered from the car. Additional reporting by Joe Mollica and Larry Celona.
