Cars Towed at Towers of America

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It looks like Spartan security is trying to make brownie points at tenants' expense. Several cars were towed away this evening without any notice to their owners by Spartan Security. According to the doorman at the East Hampton, there was only one attempt made by security to notify the owner of a vehicle parked in front of the building, but the supervisor did not have the apartment number of the owner, and the doorman had no way of knowing who owned the vehicle. Actually, security is suppose to get the name of the building and apartment number at the gate, but apparently the Security Supervisor lacked this information when he approached the doorman. Further, and FYI, protocol requires security make several attempts to notify the owner, including knocking on their door, before removing their car. No such attempts were made by Spartan for at least two vehicles. Both owners were at home, and could have easily been contacted by security.

If your car was towed recently without prior notice to you, and you have a receipt, please contact me by email or PM to discuss in more detail.

Some car owners think they can park anywhere they please for as LONG as they please.
THere are people who regularly park in wheelchair ramps.
Yes they should be towed, with or without notice.
Each person who has his car towed will learn a valuable albeit expensive lesson.

Lenin,

I forgot to mention, the cars were parked in legitimate parking spaces. We know you don't own a car (from your previous posts), so your lack of compassion is understandable, but the car owners are entitled to notice, and more important, Spartan is required to do its job properly. We all know it was cold last night, still Spartan must follow the rules and procedures, of which most of us are aware, and expect. From the information we have gathered, we've concluded Spartan failed to follow protocol.

typical sonia

blaming others for her mistakes

she knows you are not suppose to park on the waterfront for more than twenty minutes

security is obligated to track her down and ask her to move her car?

that isnt the way it works sonia !!!

Each of these ring roads serves 1000 apartments. If everyone behaved like those who had their cars towed there would be total chaos.
Time and time again management has declared NO PARKING IN THE RING ROAD BEYOND 20 MINUTES for pickups and dropoff.

What part of that is hard to understand?

I had a car for many years...I paid for parking in the garage and THAT'S where I parked my car. Prima Donnas who think that is too difficult should make sure they have full wallets if they want to park wherever they please (and that goes for the buildings' staffs.) Repeat offenders should have their cars dropped into the Hudson or, better yet, parked at the corner of Bergen and Wegman overnight.

Lenin,

As long as the car owners receive NOTICE first. This isn't about the right or wrong of parking in the ring road over the time limit, it's about Newport security's responsibility to notify car owners to move their car prior to taking their vehicle. There is a policy in place, and Newport security failed to follow it. That's the problem! If you are going to enforce the policy of a 20 minute time limit, you must comply with the policy of prior notice.

This time it manifested in the possible illegal taking of tenants' vehicles, next time it could manifest some other way, possibly affecting your lifestyle.

Can't imagine why the doorman didn't call the tenant. They have called me several times when I left my car out just a little too long. One night, I even forgot that I left it there after unloading packages. Security knocked on my door at 4am in the morning asking me to move it.

We need to have the parking available for moving packages and loading/unloading children and the elderly. The 20 minutes cannot be abused but tenants should definitely be contacted when they exceed the time limit.
